STATEMENT
ABOUT THE COURSE: The role of training and development has broadened beyond
effective instructional training and program design. Today, training is viewed
as a function that can help companies create value and successfully deal with
competitive challenges. To accomplish this, those involved in training are
increasingly being asked to create systems to motivate employees to learn,
create knowledge, and share that knowledge with other employees in the company. In today's rapidly changing business environment, it is important for employees
to develop skills and keep them up-to-date in order to meet changing customer
needs, as well as, manage their own careers.
This course is to serve as a guide
in the assessment, design, delivery, and evaluation of training programs in
organizations. Practical emphasis is on the development of a strong training
proposal, including needs assessment, evaluation instruments, and program
design. Additional emphasis is on the impact that training has on the
organization and the individual employee.

GENERAL COMMENTS
ABOUT THE TRAINING PROPOSAL
One of the most important assignments is your field
project, or training proposal. You will do this project with other group
members. There are actually two parts to this project. The first part is the
written proposal prepared according to the guidelines given in the description
of training proposal components below. The second part of the project is a
presentation that consists of a brief overview of the written
proposal, as well as, actually training the class in one of the modules in your proposal.
The class or "audience" will take on the role of the those being trained
(trainees). Thus, this project puts you in the role of a training
developer, as well as, in the role
of an actual trainer. The criteria that will be used for evaluation
of the written proposal as well as the presentation are located at the
end of this syllabus.
